Description:
The purpose of this Request for Proposals is to identify a suitable contractor to develop a comprehensive intellectual property (IP) framework and strategy that acknowledges and safeguards the cultural heritage and traditional knowledge embedded in traditional medicine (TM) practices. It focuses onoffering expert guidance throughout the product development lifecycle and during the documentation of TM, ensuring that innovations are adequately protected and aligned with the unique needs of traditional knowledge holders. In collaboration with WIPO and global experts from diverse WHO regions, thestrategy seeks to refine IP approaches to meet evolving research and innovation needs. Contributions to the Second Global Summit on Traditional Medicine will provide valuable insights to strengthen international IP frameworks. The broader objective is to ensure policy coherence that integratesbiodiversity, Indigenous knowledge, and TM into global health governance, thereby advancing equitable benefit-sharing and reinforcing the protective role of IP in preserving cultural heritage.See detailed Terms of Reference and bidding instructions under "Documents" below.
