EXTOR Energy Project Management and Design Ltd. was awarded a €17.09 million contract for the Bakonyi Hybrid Power Plant Energy Storage Procurement Project, marking a major advancement in Hungary's goals for renewable energy and grid stability. MVM Balance Private Limited Liability Company, one of the top public organisations in the nation in charge of overseeing projects involving energy, submitted the contract, which was finalised on September 30, 2025.
The energy storage system, which has a minimum 57,500 kVA rating and a capacity of 57,000 kWh, is intended to increase the plant's adaptability so that it can deliver vital frequency and power balancing services (aFRR and mFRR). The initiative will greatly aid Hungary's shift to cleaner, more robust power systems, with an operational efficiency of at least 87% for each charge-discharge cycle.
In addition to integrating the storage unit with the plant's current control and remote monitoring systems, EXTOR Energy is responsible for the storage unit's full engineering, installation, commissioning, and testing. Additionally, the business will guarantee continuous preventive maintenance and training throughout the warranty period and carry out a 720-hour trial run.
Six qualified bidders participated in the open EU public procurement process, which was carried out in accordance with Directive 2014/25/EU. Among the rival companies were:
Trading, Manufacturing, and Service CRESCOM Ltd.
Wasion Energy Technology Corporation Ltd. and Inflexio Hungary Management Consulting (China)
GNX Engineering Ltd.
The Vabeko Solar PV Main Contractor Ltd. and EB Hungary Invest Kft.
System Integration and Telecommunications, Ltd.
In the end, EXTOR Energy won the prize for having the best price-quality ratio; 90% of the award went to cost, with the remaining 10% going to performance factors including availability and fault recovery time.
The project's design and commissioning phases will be supported by subcontracting services valued at about €81,525.
This historic agreement demonstrates Hungary's dedication to EU-funded green energy modernisation as it speeds up its clean energy transition and establishes EXTOR Energy as a major participant in the growth of the renewable power infrastructure in the area.
